David Thornicroft - Managing Director
St Thomas Training's Managing Director is David Thornicroft, who has many years' experience of working in, and delivering training for, the health and social care sector. His background is mainly residential work - in probation and bail hostels, children's homes and homes for adults with mental health needs, learning disabilities and dementia. He was a Probation Officer in the Stratford/Forest Gate area of north east London, and he set up and managed a training department for Umbrella, a mental health charity in central London.
For the past 20 years or so David has run his own training companies, firstly in Hertfordshire and latterly in Lymington, Hampshire, where St Thomas Training has its head office. Don't be fooled by our southerly location however - we are happy to deliver our training at your venue anywhere in the UK. Ruth Thornicroft - Operations Director
Our Operations Director is Ruth Thornicroft, who joined us in June 2016. She is the person you are most likely to deal with when you first email or telephone us.
In Ruth's previous role as Operations Director she took care of the company finances, and the day to day running, of a private limited company which facilitated over 200 clients and employed in excess of 350 employees. With a strong customer focus, and an eye for detail, Ruth ensures that our customers receive excellent value for money and the best possible training for their employees and volunteers.
Amongst other roles Ruth was the coordinator for the assisted volunteer programme at The Watford Council for Voluntary Services, and the experience she gained whilst in this position gives her a strong understanding of the voluntary and local authority sector.
Ruth describes herself as an "organised individual who believes that building relationships help us to understand the individual needs and working pressures of both our clients and trainers alike".
Our Associate Trainers
We have a strong team of around 20 Associate Trainers who are dotted around the United Kingdom. Each Associate Trainer has been carefully selected by us not only for their practical health and social care experience but also for their excellent training ability. Some of our trainers have worked as qualified social workers or nurses; others have held responsible posts in housing associations or day centres. And on top of that all our trainers have extensive experience of delivering training sessions to health & social care professionals of all descriptions. You can be sure, for example, that the person who comes to deliver training on, say, Autism Spectrum Disorder, will not only have worked with people with ASD, but will also have delivered plenty of training on that subject.
