Dignity Action Month

Dignity Action Month

February is Dignity Action Month

At St Thomas Training, we’re proud to support Dignity Action Month, a time dedicated to celebrating and promoting dignity, kindness, respect, and compassion in health and social care. This annual initiative provides an opportunity for care workers and the public alike to reflect on the importance of dignity in our communities and to create meaningful experiences for those who use care services. Dignity Action Month aims to ensure people who use care services or who receive support are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.

What is Dignity Action Month?

The Dignity in Care Campaign began in November 2006 with the goal of inspiring healthcare professionals and community members to place dignity at the heart of their practices. Since the first Dignity Action Day on February 25, 2010, this movement has grown into a month-long celebration filled with inspiring activities and events.

Dignity Action Month takes place every February and gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity, respect, kindness and compassion.

Why is Dignity Action Month Important?

Dignity is more than a word—it’s a fundamental human right. Supporting Dignity Action Month helps to:

  • Raise awareness about the importance of treating everyone with dignity, kindness, and respect.
  • Remind society that dignity is everyone’s business.
  • Promote the work of health and social care professionals.
  • Provide special moments for individuals who may feel isolated or undervalued.
  • Support a national movement that celebrates care and compassion.

This Year’s Theme: “Three Little Deeds”

This year’s theme focuses on small actions that can make a big difference.

1. Greet everyone with a smile

We all know how important a smile can be in making us feel valued and acknowledged.  It’s a little deed but can have an enormous impact.

2. Say thank you

Again saying thank you to someone is a little deed that can make such a difference to their feelings of value

3. Stop and listen

Take time out to really listen to someone. You may be busy but your little deed is to make them feel valued and special.

The Dignity in Care Campaign

The Dignity in Care Campaign is a charity, run by volunteers, led by the National Dignity Council. Their aim is to put dignity and respect at the heart of UK care services, inspiring others to join a nationwide movement to promote access to dignity as a human right for all.

“The campaign’s core values are about having dignity in our hearts minds and actions, changing the culture of services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services.” To find out more about The Dignity in Care Campaign support Dignity in Care – head to their website – www.dignityincare.org.uk.
